Buy and trainAn off-the-shelf assistant (ChatGPT, Copilot) could halve the time at equal quality. Licences and training.
BuildIt would take software or an agent built on AI and connected to your systems. A project.
People stay centralAI can't halve the time.

These are shares of working time, weighted by how long each task takes. They say where time goes and where AI could help. They are not time saved, money saved or jobs lost.

How it's made

  1. Tasks. O*NET lists the tasks in every US occupation. Each task carries a label from Eloundou and colleagues' GPTs are GPTs: buy and train (E1), build (E2, with their E3 merged in), or people stay central (E0).
  2. Time. Each task's share of the working day, estimated with the method of Hatgis-Kessell and colleagues (2026), which I reimplemented: how often a task is done, times how long one go takes.
  3. UK jobs. Each UK job group (SOC 2020) links to one or more O*NET occupations through Stable Future's crosswalk. A job group's shares average its linked occupations.
  4. Industries. ONS data on employment by occupation and industry, 2022–2024, gives the usual mix of jobs in each industry.

The same data runs the opportunity scanner. 408 of 412 job groups have task data.

Limits

  • O*NET describes US jobs. UK jobs map to them through a crosswalk.
  • The labels are Eloundou and colleagues' 2023 human ratings. They will switch to my 2026 re-rating when it's done.
  • Time per task is a model's estimate.
  • Exposure is potential, not adoption. It says nothing about jobs lost.
